This was a three day backpacking trip. Samuel Glacier is accessible from the Haines Road on foot in about three to four hours. At the start, there is an abandoned mining road, which peters out after about an hour or so.
The weather was perfect throughout the trip, blue skies, little wind. We hiked in on day one and found a great spot ovelooking the glacier to pitch our tents. On day two we climbed a nearby peak and were rewarded with 360 degree wiews of surrounding mountains and glaciers. We could even see Mount Logan - Canada's tallest mountain. On day tree, a slight breeze brought in smoke from a distant forest fire and decreased the visibilty. We explored the glacier up close and later hiked out.
